This webinar we will help clinicians move from “generic pacing advice” to practical, individualised strategies to minimise post-exertional malaise (PEM).

We will review pacing principles through the lens of PEM and allostatic load and build a practical understanding of pacing using heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV).

The session unpacks the real-world complexities of setting a heart-rate threshold (why one number rarely fits), how to monitor “time above threshold” over time, and how resting HR/symptom patterns and HRV may support safer day-to-day decisions.

You’ll also compare device/app options (pros/cons) and learn how to use short-term symptom diaries without overloading patients.

  • Review pacing for ME/CFS in the context of post-exertional malaise (PEM) and allostatic load
  • Describe heart rate variability (HRV)
  • Discuss HRV in the context of ME/CFS
  • Identify different strategies to introduce heart rate and HRV into pacing for ME/CFS
  • Understand the complexities of calculating a heart rate threshold for pacing

The session is for any health professional wanting to understand pacing using biometric data further.

RACGP activity ID – pending

All participants will be automatically issued a certificate on completion of the webinar for your records.
